High Fructose Gel provides 55g of carbohydrates and 250mg of sodium per gel thanks to maltodextrin and fructose, in a ratio of 10:8.
This formulation, based on “multiple transportable carbohydrates”, has demonstrated through studies* that during prolonged physical exercise, the use of carbohydrates that are absorbed in the intestine by different transporters is the only way to increase the rate of assimilation and oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates above 60 g/hour*.
To this end, researchers confirm that combining carbohydrate sources is ideal. We opted for maltodextrin, to control molecular weight/osmolarity, while the other is fructose.
MALTODEXTRIN:
• It is absorbed in the small intestine by the SLG-1 transporter and converted into glucose for delivery to cells, providing them with rapid energy.
• It has a high glycemic index, a rapid increase in blood glucose levels, with immediate release of energy.
• Rapid gastric emptying thanks to the high molecular weight and low osmolarity, which aids digestion and reduces secondary gastrointestinal effects.
FRUCTOSE:
• It is absorbed in the small intestine via GLUT5 transporters, which are different from those that absorb other carbohydrates. Absorbed fructose passes from the intestine to the liver via GLUT2 transporters and replenishes liver glycogen stores lost during intense exercise.
• Absorption occurs gradually, with a constant and progressive release of energy.
This is why the combination of maltodextrin and fructose allows you to digest and assimilate high quantities of carbohydrates per hour, reducing the risk of gastric problems.
